In a small weaving town in France ,a young boy named
Henri -Emile - Benoit -Matisse watched his mother paint china.
He wanted to paint too .

फ्रांसमधल्या विणकरांच्या एका छोट्या खेड्यात हेनरी-एमाईल- बेनॉईट -मॅटीसे
नावाचा छोटा मुलगा रहात होता. तो त्याच्या आईला चिनीमातीची भांडी रंगवताना
बघत असे . त्यालाही रंगवायचे होते.

He drew pictures in the sand .

त्याने वाळूमध्ये चित्रे काढली.

He drew pictures in his schoolbook .

शाळेच्या वहीत त्याने चित्र काढली.

M DEEDS

When Henri was a young man , he drew pictures in his law

books and on contract deeds, and wills .

हेनरी जेव्हा मोठा झाला तेव्हा त्याने त्याची कायद्याची पुस्तके, करारपत्रे ,
मृत्युपत्रांवर चित्रे काढली.

Henri was sick in bed with appendicitis one winter.
His mother gave him a box of paints and he painted until he

was well .

थंडीच्या दिवसात एकदा तो अपेंडिक्समुळे आजारी पडला. त्याच्या आईने
त्याला रंगांचा एक खोका दिला. बरा होईपर्यंत तो रंगवत होता .

He kept on painting , forgot about law , and left his small
town to be an artist in Paris .

हेनरी कायद्याची पुस्तके विसरला आणि कलावंत म्हणून पॅरिसला
जाण्यासाठी त्याने ते छोटे खेडे सोडले .

Henri painted pictures day after day and year after year .

त्यानंतर हेनरी दिवसेंदिवस , कित्येक वर्षचित्र रंगवत होता.

He was happy and his paintings made people happy .

But when Matisse was an old man, he fell ill – so ill he couldn t
paint, so ill he couldn t sit up , so ill he could only lie in bed and
sleep . His painting floated by in his dreams.

पण हेनरी मॅटिसे जेव्हा म्हातारा झाला , तो आजारी पडला - एवढा आजारी की
त्याला चित्र काढणे शक्य नव्हते , उठून बसणे शक्य नव्हते. तो आजाराने फक्त
झोपून होता. तो त्याची चित्र स्वप्नात पाहू लागला .

Matisse finally opened his eyes and they were filled with
sadness . Now he must remain in bed or use a wheelchair .
Would he ever have the energy to paint again ?

जेव्हा मॅटीसेने डोळे उघडले तेव्हा तो खूप निराश झालेला. आता त्याला फक्त
झोपून रहायचे होते किंवा चाकाची खुर्ची. पुन्हा चित्र काढण्यासाठी त्याला ताकद
मिळणार होती का ?

When Matisse was strong enough to travel , he went to the
seaside – the sea air might help him get well.
Before long, he sat up. A little later, he drew .

जेव्हा मॅटीसेकडेफिरण्याची ताकद आली, तेव्हा तो समुद्रावर गेला -
समुद्राकडच्या हवेने कदाचित त्याला बरे वाटले असते. थोडासा बसू लागल्यावर ,
तो थोडी चित्र काढू लागला .

Then one day Matisse picked up a pair of scissors and cut out
shapes from painted paper – he was drawing with scissors !

नंतर एके दिवशी मॅटीसेने कात्री घेतली आणि रंगवलेले कागद तो कापू लागला
- आता तो कात्रीने चित्रे काढत होता!

" My pleasure

मग दिवसभर मॅटीसेने कागद कापले .
“ वस्तू कापण्यातले माझा आनंद वाढतच आहे.
मी ह्यापूर्वी ह्याचा विचार का केला नाही ?"

His assistants painted paper for him all day .

त्याचे सहाय्यक त्याच्यासाठी दिवसभर कागद रंगवायचे.

Paper Cut - ouths- cavered his walls.

lay in bed and drew the faces of

long pole .

एका संध्याकाळी मॅटीसे बेडवर झोपूनच , मोठ्या बांबूला पुढे खडू लावून
छतावर त्याच्या नातवंडांचे चेहरे काढत होता.

dreams. They saw the SHAPES that surrounded him in sleep.

जेव्हा तो झोपला, तेचेहरे त्याच्याकडे बघत होते आणि त्याची स्वप्ने पहात होते .
तो झोपलेला असताना त्याच्या भोवतीचे आकार ते बघत होते .

As time went on , Matisse cut bigger and bigger shapes.
They filled his seaside room with color.

वेळ जात होता आणि मॅटीसे मोठे, अधिक मोठे आकार कापत होता.

him into the heavens.

Are some of the stars we see at night coming to us from
Henri s scissors ? Perhaps.
